Workshop Descriptions

“4%: Breaking Barriers to Post Graduate Education”

We are facing a declining job market and a growing workforce, so really good jobs are becoming scarce as well as more competitive and, for Latinos, having an advanced degree could make all in the difference in getting the job you really want. Applying to graduate school is not rocket science! Come and hear an informative step-by-step workshop on how to apply.

“Learning the secrets of college/university policies”

Are you and/or your student organization having issues with policies at your college/university?

What are your school’s policies regarding the outreach, recruitment and retention of Latino students or Latino faculty, staff and administrators? What about student financial aid and financial support for Latino organizations? What about courses and degree programs offered? This workshop will show you how to influence the formulation and implementation of college/university policies that determine the quality of your education.

      “Latina/o Civic Engagement”

Regardless of the outcome, the 2008 presidential election will be historic. We may elect the first African American president, or the first woman Vice President, or the oldest man elected President to a first term. Again, regardless of the outcome, you will be affected. Come and learn how you can become more involved in this presidential election on your campus.

      “American Issues: The Latino Perspective”

The elections are right around the corner. Are you still undecided? Are you unsure about where the candidate you may support stands on issues that affect you? Do you think Latinos have a separate agenda from that of other Americans? Don’t go to the polls uninformed! Come and learn about issues that affect Latinos and all Americans.

      CreditSmart

Being “CreditSmart” may determine whether you can stay in college and get the job, the car, and the place to live you want when you finish. Discover the importance of creating a budget, sticking to it, and living within your means. In this workshop you will learn how to make sound financial decisions by organizing and managing your finances.
