Teresa Romero Receives Presidential Medal of Freedom

Teresa Romero, the 3rd President of the United Farmworkers Union (UFW) and successor to Cesar E. Chavez and Arturo Rodriquez, was honored in May at the White House by President Joe Biden. Teresa was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest honor presented to a civilian. As UFW president, she represents the nation’s most essential workers, those who labor in the fields throughout the year and regardless of the weather to ensure that all Americans are fed as well as those who rely on America for food. Congratulations!

Teresa Romero was honored in February by USHLI during its 2024 national conference in Chicago. She received the Dolores Huerta Woman of Courage Medallion, presented in honor of the co-founder of the United Farmworkers Union. Teresa was presented the award in recognition of her leadership in the struggle for social and economic justice for farmworkers and for being the first Latina/o immigrant elected to lead a major labor union. Again, congratulations!
